After years of waiting, leaks, hype, and two big delays, Rockstar Games has finally locked in the release date for the biggest game of the decade. Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) is officially coming on Thursday, November 19, 2026. This is the real date no more “Fall 2025” or “May 2026” guesses. Rockstar announced it directly on their website on November 6, 2025, saying they need extra months to make the game perfect.
The wait has been long (the first trailer was released in December 2023), but fans are more excited than ever. GTA VI is going to be the biggest open-world game ever made, bringing back the legendary Vice City in a huge new state called Leonida. It will star the first-ever female lead in a main GTA game, and the story looks like a modern Bonnie-and-Clyde crime adventure.
How We Got Here
Rockstar started working on GTA VI way back in 2014, right after GTA V came out. Real development kicked off around 2018-2020. The game was first teased for “Fall 2025” in Take-Two’s earnings reports. Then, in May 2025, Rockstar shocked everyone by moving it to May 26, 2026. Just six months later, on November 6, 2025, they pushed it again to November 19, 2026.
In their official message, Rockstar said: “Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time… but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
They thanked fans for their patience and promised the sprawling state of Leonida and modern Vice City will be worth the wait. The delays were only for quality, no big problems, just Rockstar being Rockstar and wanting everything to feel perfect.
Platforms: PS5 and Xbox First, PC Later
GTA VI launches only on current-gen consoles:

- Xbox Series X and Series S
No PS4 or Xbox One version this is a next-gen only game from day one.
A PC version has not yet been announced. Based on how Rockstar works (GTA V came to PC almost 2 years later), most experts expect GTA VI on PC sometime in Fall 2027 or later. The console versions come first so Rockstar can focus on the best experience possible before bringing it to PC.
The Trailers That Broke the Internet
Rockstar has only released two official trailers so far, but both were massive events.
Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023)
This was the big reveal. It leaked a few hours early, so Rockstar dropped it right away. The 1-minute-31-second video showed Vice City at night, people dancing, alligators in swamps, police chases, and our two main characters robbing a store. It played the song “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty and ended with the title and 2025 release window. It broke every record: 93 million views in 24 hours, over 268 million views total, and became one of the most-liked videos ever on YouTube. The trailer proved GTA VI is set in modern times with social media, influencers, and crazy Florida-style chaos.
Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025)
This one was even bigger over 152 million views! It was made 100% from real PlayStation 5 gameplay and cutscenes (no pre-rendered movie tricks). We finally saw the full names: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. It showed them in a bank robbery that goes wrong, driving through swamps, hanging out in strip clubs, and running from cops. The trailer introduced side characters and gave us our first real look at the story. It ends with the line about being “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.”

The Story and Main Characters
- Lucia Caminos – The first female protagonist you can play as in a main GTA game. She grew up in Liberty City, went to prison, and now wants a better life in Leonida. She’s tough, smart, and the emotional heart of the story.
- Jason Duval – Her boyfriend, a former Army guy who got mixed up with drug runners in the Leonida Keys. He’s more hot-headed but will do anything to protect Lucia.
Their story is like a modern Bonnie and Clyde. They try a simple bank robbery, but it pulls them into a huge criminal conspiracy across the whole state. They have to trust each other to survive. Rockstar says the story will feel personal and emotional – something new for the series.

The Massive Map of Leonida
Instead of just one city like Vice City in 1986 or Los Santos in GTA V, GTA VI gives us an entire state called Leonida (a funny parody of Florida).

The Game that Makes It Special
GTA VI keeps everything you love, stealing cars, shooting, exploring, and causing chaos but adds new stuff.

Pre-Orders and Price
Pre-orders are not fully open yet (as of March 2026), but you can already “Add to Wishlist” on the PlayStation Store. Expect pre-orders to start in summer 2026 with big bonuses like early access to online or special cars.
Price is expected to be $70–$80 for standard edition (maybe $100 for premium versions with extra content). Some analysts think Rockstar might try a higher price because the game cost over $1-2 billion to make, but nothing is confirmed.

Important Notes:
- You will need a very fast SSD – 200 GB minimum, probably more when mods come out.

What Happens Next in 2026?
